Nowadays, the matching, often colorful suits of 50's and 60's rock bands seem old-fashioned or even twee. What impression did they give when they were current? Were they considered rebellious, or were they an attempt to appease the older crowd on whom they depended for record deals? (3rd attempt)

I understand that European royals only began attending universities fairly recently (i.e., not before the 19th century). Is that true? If so, why was that? Was it because they could get the same quality of education, but from the comfort of their palaces and without having to mix with commoners?
