In Jimmy Soul's "If You Wanna Be Happy" (1963), a dialogue mid-song has a guy rudely telling his friend his wife is ugly, and the friend replies: "But she sure can cook!" Would 60's listeners have taken "cook" as a euphemism here? Or is that a 21st-c. mind reading too much into a more innocent time?

We all know the clothes of well-off 18th century Western European (and Russian) men (variations of wigs/long hair, jacket, vest or waistcoat, cravat, knee breeches, stockings, etc.). To what extent was this outfit adopted (or not) in other parts of Europe?
