In Jimmy Soul's "If You Wanna Be Happy" (1963), a dialogue mid-song has a guy rudely telling his friend his wife is ugly, and the friend replies: "But she sure can cook!" Would 60's listeners have taken "cook" as a euphemism here? Or is that a 21st-c. mind reading too much into a more innocent time?
