On the one hand, I understand that Lincoln initially planned to send all formerly enslaved persons to Africa upon abolition. On the other, I've heard that his friendship with Frederick Douglass softened his earlier racial separatism. Did Lincoln in fact evolve in his racial views over time?

In 1947, Arthur Godfrey had a big hit with his novelty song "Too Fat Polka." He was seemingly of an arch-WASP background. Was it seen as unusual for Godfrey, a man with no ties to the Central European immigrant communities who brought polka to the US in the first place, to work within the genre?
