In 1917 two Russian regimes collapsed, in part due to mutinies in the military as a result of the losses in WW1. But the Russian army's position in early 1917 was better than in 1941/42, when the Soviet regime survived despite catastrophic losses to Germany. Why did Stalin survive but not the Tsar?
