What was the point of the "classical education" and "humanist gymnasiums" in the Germany of the 1700s to 1900s? What practical application did this have? Why was thus pursued over more useful subjects, such as math or science?

It is easy to say that the Axis powers lost WW2 right from the start, but can the same be said about the Central Powers in WW1? Was that war also lost from the start or was there some chance of a victory, especially after the Russians left?

From reading the Wikipedia article about it, Bulgaria did not initially join the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union and otherwise also did not participate in any fighting. But it is not quite clear from the article, if it stayed this way all the way until 1944 or if they later joined the fighting.

Why was Haiti twice declared an Empire? It had no Imperial tradition, didn't have enough power to justify a status equivalent to that of the first French Empire, and nobody would respect their claim to Empire anyway. It also did not fulfill any of the definitions of Empire, to my knowledge.
