I read an account of a group of White British men in the 1970's going out to find a South Asian person to beat up after a night of drinking and watching football, almost as if it was part of the night's entertainment. Why was this so "normal"?

Why did Sweden offer the Military Order of Malta the island of Gotland in 1806? I understand why the Order would have wanted it after losing Malta in 1798, but what would Sweden have gained?

I read that one of the reasons the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved in 1806 was that the Hapsburgs didn't want Napoleon to become Holy Roman Emperor. Was this a realistic fear? Did Napoleon ever consider becoming Holy Roman Emperor?

After WWI, Portugal founded an Emigration Police service to prevent illegal emigration. Why? I'm familiar with illegal immigration, but this seems totally different.
