Reading about the Baltic states' complex histories and how diverse they are, I find it interesting how close and cooperative they are with one another, even though one of them (Estonia) is the "odd man out" ethno-linguistically. How was this contemporary cooperation shaped by shared history?

I've read accounts implying the US government, including the CIA, hadn't really heard of Osama bin Laden before the 90s. Is this plausible, given Osama's ties to Saudi and Pakistani intelligence, the prominence of his family, and the CIA's covert role in 80s Afghanistan alongside Pakistan and KSA?
