Why did the Calusa kingdom of Florida immediately murder Ponce de León upon his landing? Obviously in retrospect, killing the colonizers early seems smart, but how would they have known to do this?

Around Davos, Switzerland there used to be a confederation called the Three Leagues, which formed when three neighboring polities all with “league” in their name joined forces. Was it a conscious choice for the three to have such similar names in the first place?
