To what degree was the rise of the isms (Fascism, Communism, Socialism) during and after WWI correlated with declining religious observance among people in the West?

In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Mark Anthony's funeral oration roused the Roman plebs against Caesar's assassins. Historically, I believe Caesar himself used funeral orations for political purposes. Was this an innovative use of eulogies for political gain, or a long-standing precedent?
