Did the United States grow drug producing plants widely before they were made Illegal? Did they ever grow coca in Florida? Large scale cannabis farms? Were poppies a cash crop for making opium?

Corruption is rampant in many countries at all levels of society. And yet, in America corruption at the low government or police level is nearly unheard of. What is the history of low level corruption in America, and at what point did America achieve the current status quo and how?

At what point did selling items go from one man one product, to something more like a General Store? I'm talking pre-industrial revolution. Surely at some point somebody said hey i can be everything to everyone.
