Were the Gurkhas always a warrior race, or is that reputation a result of extensive military recruitment from them by the British? If the former is the case, how did they become so warlike? If the latter, then why did the British prefer them as soldiers?

The Ottoman Empire's infamous prohibition of the printing press is widely known and discussed. And yet, I don't know anything about other Muslim societies' reactions to printing. What, if anything, do we know about the opinions of the Safavids or Moghuls, for exams?
