How do animals smell things from miles away? Do things give off a physical ‘thing’ in the air that the animal senses? What about sharks sensing blood in the water? How does a drop off blood affect the water around it for it to give off a smell that the sharks can pick up on?

To preface this, Im not sure how well I understand quantum physics, but from what Ive gathered, the state of something is affected depending on whether it is being consciously observed or not. What would happen in terms of quantum physics, if every conscious organism feel unconscious simultaneously?
