The 2000 A&E film “The Crossing” portrays Gen. Horatio Gates as a snide pessimist who can barely conceal his scorn toward George Washington. After insulting Washington, Gates is summarily fired & sent away at gunpoint. Is there any truth to this portrayal?

I’m current reading “I Will Hold”, a non-fiction account of the US Marines in WW1. In the book, the Marines repeatedly refer to the Germans as “Dutchmen”. Was this common in the US during that era? And how did this originate? Is it a mispronunciation of “Deutsche”?

I recently purchased a Japanese Type 99 rifle from WW2. How are there so many Type 99s on the market in the US? Were they all brought home as war trophies by GIs, or were any exported after the war?
