Immediately following the D-Day landings the allies were slowed down by the bocage terrain, and they are often criticized for not accounting for this. Is it a valid criticism or were there other factors?

In ancient and medieval times contemporary writers/chroniclers tended to focus on the nobility and royalty in their histories. Was this more a result of them being biased towards the upper classes or was it encouraged by patronage from them? Were there exceptions to this bias among older historians?

How heavily did the Soviet Union use Central Asian ethnicities (Kazakh, Uzbek, etc) as soldiers on the Eastern Front, as opposed to garrison duty or war production? Would they have been integrated or separated into their own units (ex. 10th Kazakh regiment)?

Why was Sakhalin island relatively ignored by the Japanese until the 1600's? Why wasn't the whole island incorporated like Hokkaido was before the Russians expanded to it in the 1800's?
