I recently read that anti-Mormon tracts mentioned a group called "Danites". They were supposedly a LDS-affiliated vigilante group who would eliminate critics of Mormonism. Where did the idea of movement-connected vigilante groups come from? Did this group actually exist, or was this propaganda?
