Did sculptures / architects know that bronze would oxidize and change? Did people like Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (Statue of Liberty) really have no idea? Or, did people actually like the new color and decided to keep it?

There are some accusations that Paul Rusesabagina, the famous manager who saved countless lives during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, was not so virtuous. Some Rwandans claim he was hostel to the guests and charged them for food and water. Is there anyway weight to these claims?
