Prior to the Visigothic domination over the Iberian Peninsula, the region was settled by other Germanic peoples - like the Vandals and the Suebi - that seem to have been completely erradicated by the Goths. Did they leave any lasting heritage at all in Iberia?

The dictators Franco (Spain) and Salazar (Portugal) seem to have had similar views on many things, and both gained power after the defeat of Republics which had overthrown their respective monarchies. Why then did Franco restore the Spanish Kingdom, but Salazar kept Portugal as a Republic?
