An Emperor or King's image on currency throughout history was used as a source of propaganda. Today we still have coins from many different rulers from different time periods. Was there ever confusion due to lack of communication at the far reaches of a domain that a former ruler was still in power?

When a nation's lands were conquered by another, did the wealthy or most of it's inhabitants able to do so immigrate back to the Nations lands? Ex. Byzantines lose Anatolia, and the East.
