When something small flies towards my eyes and they snap shut, what's going on? Is my brain capable of seeing something and reacting that fast, or do my eyes snap shut when it touches my lashes, or what?

Most of the light omitted by our sun is in the green spectrum, so why do the majority of plants (that require the sunlight to convert CO2 and H2O into sugars) reflect away the green, and absorb the other colors instead?

Why do pieces of wire need to be soldered together? Does the metal-metal contact not conduct electricity fine on its own? If not, why not?
