Someone on here told me that the rational the Spanish used for justifying conquering native Americans (IE claiming the natives were childlike savages that needed to be taken over) was formed during their conquest of the Canary Islands in the 1400s. Can anyone go into that more deeply?

When I visited the HMS Belfast there were hammocks (with disturbing wax works in them) all over the ship, even above heavy machinery. Is this true to life? were they not worried about people falling out & being injured?
