I just don't get why the probability of throwing a fair coin with 10 heads is 1/1024 but the 10th throw after 9 successive head is still 1/2, even accounting for independence.

Is there a limitation to evolution? e.g. can a colony of bacteria evolve to live of 100% Ethanol or live on Saturn?
