The Detroit Evening Times published an article that countered the economic argument presented by Harold Laski that, "Free enterprise and the market economy mean WAR; Socialism and planned economy mean PEACE," in December 1945. Clearly, free trade promotes peace, not war.

Apparently, papayas were not mainstream in the U.S. until the 1960s, while their availability was not widespread until the 1980s. So, it should not be too crazy to think that a sailor from Rhode Island in 1903 wouldn't know a papaya if he saw one.
