Why are we racing to get to Mars as a "rescue" colony from a doomed Earth? Wouldn't Mars be a worse environment to settle on even compared to a resource drained or desolate Earth? What does Mars have that an arid Earth wouldn't?

When I microwave one slice of pizza for 30 seconds, it's good to go. But when I put in two slices for 30 seconds, they're both still cold. Why does a microwave need more time to heat up two slices vs one when they're both in there for equal time?

If you suddenly had no eyelids, would you be able to sleep? Would your brain stop processing your vision eventually, or is it possible to sleep while continuing to process images/vision?

Would the result of a tug-of-war match still be the same if the participants were dispersed alternating between each other (still facing their respective directions) rather than all members on opposite sides?
