Why didn't Canada join the rest of British North America in the Revolutionary War of 1776?

What was the evolution of Knight tactics in medieval Europe. I recently heard that the Norman Knights who conquered England would attack shield walls with heavy javelins/throwing spears. Is this true? What about the stereotype of Knights charging through the shield wall with heavy lances?
