The Higgs looks like it will end up around 125GeV if it is found. They are saying that such a light/weak Higgs will require new particles. Can someone elaborate on what this means?

Why do bacteria hate sugar? I read recently that anything with a decent enough sugar concentration is antibacterial. Sugar seems like it would be right up bacteria's alley. Why isn't it?
