I've read that during the Battle of the Bulge troop shortages were so bad that the Army allowed blacks to serve alongside whites in "integrated" units. What happened to such units after the battle? And what happened after the war ended?

In Stephen Kotkin's biography on Stalin he says that the Tsaritsyn Cheka often refused direct orders from Bolshevik leaders such as Lenin. Saying that power resided with them, not Moscow. Why then, did they obey Stalin, an outsider and high ranking Bolshevik?
