In the movie 12 Years A Slave Benedict Cumberbatch's character allows his slave to play violin at an event off his plantation & earn money from it. The slave is told he could keep the money. Could that slave have any reasonable expectation of spending that money? And, if so, on what?

This may be the wrong sub but how factual are Glen Beck's historical books? A few of them seem rather interesting but Mr. Beck lacks credibility IMO.
