I've heard the statistic that 7 out of every 8 Germans killed in WWII were by the hands of the Russians. Assuming this fact is valid, could it be safe to assume the Russians could have defeated Germany on their own? Single handedly?

What did a Roman era fire brigade consist of exactly? What kind of equipment did they employ & how effective could they be? There are many stories of Crassus' fire brigade & how he would use them unethically at times. But did they just schlep a giant barrel of water & buckets around with them?
