Given that the later Ottomans seemed to look down strongly on their nomadic or peasant/"Turk" subjects, what did they make of their dynasty's own nomadic origins? Did they downplay the nomadic/semi-nomadic background of their predecessors?

Why are the Eastern churches, both E & O Orthodoxies & Eastern Catholic, named & organized on national & sometimes today explicitly national*ist* basis? Why are they nominally churches of *peoples* (and now mostly nation-*states*) vs. universal (lower c catholic) or anything else?

Thousands of Late Medieval/Early Modern Christians & Muslims were enslaved & then ransomed by corsairs of the opposite faith. Was there any anxiety in Christendom about recently ransomed Christians (or Jews) being crypto-Muslims/"turning Turk" & to what degree was the focus of that anxiety gendered?
