Multitools like the Swiss Army Knife have existed since at least the Roman era. In what regions and time periods were they most popular or widespread in common use, and why are Swiss Army Knives apparently the most well-known?

Apollo 13 famously required jury-rigging for Command Module CO2 scrubbers to be used in the Lunar Excursion Module and ad hoc solutions for water and waste. For subsequent flights, were any changes made to the provisions and equipment aboard to improve survivability were a similar event to recur?

Much is written about WWII troop movements, strategy, tactics, and weapons, but what about logistics? What was the wartime transportation situation in Nazi Germany, where were munitions and rations prepared, how were raw materials and goods moved around, and armies supplied?
