Before the Berlin wall was built, were mass defections thru West Berlin a thing? If so, was it mainly Germans defecting, or was it spread out among the Eastern bloc? In the 'GWOT', there's a fear of "sleeper agents", was this fear present in the Cold War as well?

In modern 'tournaments' (such as athletic competitions), competitors often have elaborate support systems (people to take care of the day-to-day issues that might distract somebody from giving his best effort). Was it cusomary for medieval knights to have a support system? What would it look like?

I've read that in many places Jewish enclaves suffered less severely during the Black Death due to superior hygiene practices (only to be blamed and persecuted due to their comparative immunity). Was this a documented effect? At what point was it retroactively understood?
