I read that "The northern lights are best visible around midnight," when the sun is "at its peak height in the sky on the other side of the planet.". Why would that be? Isn't astronomical twilight as dark as it gets? Is there some other reason?

Say I cut down a tree. Is there any sort of soil or liquid that I could put the tree in, which would rescue the tree and keep it alive indefinitely?

When a rocket is launched, do they need to know its exact weight in order to use the right amount of fuel? I ask because I sometimes hear statements like, "if you bring up that banana it costs $1,000 in fuel" and I'm wondering if they actually add more fuel to the tank because of that banana.
