Can you help me find a good analysis of how much time a driver saves by driving aggressively (and why the time is saved)?... e.g. by weaving, getting through changing lights, driving slightly above the speed limit, choosing faster lanes, etc.

Recently I posted here & learned that the large stars in a photo of Andromeda are actually in the Milky Way. My astronomer friend then told me that these stars will create "diffraction spikes" so we know they're closer. How does this work?
