Where does the infamous anime “beach episode” come from? How did it become such a common part of anime? How did kids’ shows like Pokémon end up with beach episodes (that had some sketchy parts in there?)

In the Broadway musical, Hamilton, King George is depicted as being surprised/bemused at George Washington stepping down from the presidency. Is this how European royals of the time reacted? Did they even take notice?
