I've never seen a predator kill a sleeping animal (on TV). Do we know if this is common? Do some prey stay in groups and take turns sleeping?

We've all seen maps of the brain on which specific sensory regions of the cerebrum map to specific regions of the body. Do our brains have a region that would, in lower mammals, map to the tail? If so, what is the function of that region?
