When John Hay of Indiana, President Lincolns future secretary, entered an Ivy League School in the 1850's, his biography says he stood out due to his "western" clothing and accent. How would the clothes and accent of someone in the 1850s Midwest differ so much from those living on the Eastern coast?

In a Horrible Histories song, King George I of Britain claims "ladies all swooned before me, they would do anything for me, or I'd have their husbands killed." Is there anything to back this up? Would the King even have that authority, since Britain at that time was a constitutional monarchy?
