In 1082 Alexios I Komnenos made a chrysobull granting Venice a number of privileges. Amoungst these the Venetians were given the church of St Andrew in Durazzo. Were Venetian churches in Byzantine/medieval Roman territory under the authority of the Patriarch of Constantinople or the Pope of Rome?
