In 1082 Alexios I Komnenos made a chrysobull granting Venice a number of privileges. Amoungst these the Venetians were given the church of St Andrew in Durazzo. Were Venetian churches in Byzantine/medieval Roman territory under the authority of the Patriarch of Constantinople or the Pope of Rome?

The term 'the Silk Road' refers to a series of trade networks between the 'West' and China, but there are various different answers as to where this network ended in the 'West'. Where was the Western starting/ending point to the silk road (at say, 1000 CE)?

There are multiple examples of baptism and confirmation being used as a peacemaking ritual between Christian and 'pagan' rulers in the Medieval period. Why are there no (as far as I'm aware) examples of this ritual being used between rulers of different Abrahamic faith?
