[WP] The Guild of Alchemists and Enchanters (the GA&E) have supplanted the old Mages Guild due to the former's ability to make weapons and concoctions that are more practical. The GA&E helped to turn the tide against both the goblins and the hoard of the dead. The mages are furious.
