it seems a persistent historical trend was Germany's geopolitical struggle to keep Russia and France from allying to avoid fighting on two fronts. Did France also have similar struggles trying to keep Germany and Spain from allying for the same reason?

According to Guns, Germs, and Steel there was no major endemic diseases in the Americas because of a lack of animal husbandry, and no large-scale settled communities. How then, did so many deadly diseases develop in animals if they also are not settled and do not participate in animal husbandry?
