What the fuck am I trying to prove by still living with them? That they’ll change? That I’ll finally have the family I deserve to make up for the years I was traumatized? That I can finally be normal like other people and stop pretending like I’m a well rounded individual with healthy family ties?

I convinced myself that if I was stronger as a kid with more boundaries, despite being conditioned not to, I wouldn’t be so damaged with PTSD. I would be like the other kids who set a goal to leave after high school and went no contact. I didn’t think I’d make it to 19. I made no future plans.
