Is it possible to "shock" yourself into no longer being afraid of horror entertainment? Like watching an incredibly frightening movie and suddenly seeing other things as not that frightening anymore?

How can Parallel Universes / Multi-Worlds Theory and other such theories be proven right? If they existed in an infinite number, wouldn't an infinite number of universes have already discovered how to travel between universes? And if that happened wouldn't it cause complete destruction?
