The Order of the Golden Fleece has two branches, Austrian (Habsburg) and Spanish (Bourbon). The Austrian branch is male-only, and the Spanish is not. Why is this, when did the policy change, and in general how have they diverged since the War of Spanish Succession that caused the split?
