This is probably a very simple question, but what do the grey squares over a town mean please? AFAIK I didn't do anything to make them come up, I just scrolled to it on the map and suddenly they were there.

Hi! Your favorite newbie here back with another hopefully simple question lol; Why won't any of the stopped trains use the two empty platforms please? It's definitely not a lack of electrification (I checked, after last time!) and I can't see what's wrong with my path signals! Thanks in advance!!
