During 9/11 if someone got to the roof of one of the buildings could they theoretically ride the roof down with the building and not be crushed because there is nothing above them?

Our brains have basically chosen for us what we can conciously control ourselves. Can anyone go into detail in why our body does this? I find it interesting.

Why dont we just install massive parachutes that can slow a planes descent down to a survivable speed in the event of it going down?
