I awoke briefly in the night and noticed a human man apparently made of sand, struggling to reconstitute itself at the foot of my bed and reaching out for help, but I just assumed it was a dreamlike hallucination and went back to sleep.

I had a bittersweet dream last night that my mother was in my room and had covered herself in sand, much like she used to do to playfully scare me at the beach, jokingly calling herself the “Sandwoman.”
