I just got asked to flat with someone and have been given the option of either subletting or going on the lease. I don't know which to choose. What are the pros and cons of both of these?

I was sent an application to go on the lease from a future flatmate. They told me to send it back to them and they'll submit it to the Real Estate. Am I allowed to send it directly to the Real Estate myself? I don't want my roommate having my ID and other details.
