There were concerns and question about jars getting too hot, so I started an experiment back in February. I put floaters in this cookie jar and left it outside on the porch where it gets 2 hours of direct sunlight. Temps reached 111 F outside. Lots of algae but also lots of life.

Here's a closeup of some of the critters from the low lake catch. Lots of ostracods and water boatmen as well as a little mayfly nymph that's sitting on a bigger one. And I think I dragonfly on the other side of the stick, hard to make out.
