Our current concept of Hell as a blazing inferno is based on Dante’s Inferno from the 14th century. What was the general idea of hell before then?

In the opening lines of the Epic of Gilgamesh, it is mentioned that the tale takes place "before there was bread". Is this a genuine societal memory of the days before agriculture, or is it simply a case of mythology coincidentally being similar to the truth?

What was the flag of the Russian Empire? According to some sources they used the standard Russian white-blue-red tricolor, according to others they use a black-gold-white tricolor, and sometimes they use the Russian tricolor with the Imperial Eagle in the top-left.
