Our current concept of Hell as a blazing inferno is based on Dante’s Inferno from the 14th century. What was the general idea of hell before then?

In the opening lines of the Epic of Gilgamesh, it is mentioned that the tale takes place "before there was bread". Is this a genuine societal memory of the days before agriculture, or is it simply a case of mythology coincidentally being similar to the truth?

What was the flag of the Russian Empire? According to some sources they used the standard Russian white-blue-red tricolor, according to others they use a black-gold-white tricolor, and sometimes they use the Russian tricolor with the Imperial Eagle in the top-left.

I am a young man fresh out of primary school in the Ottoman Empire in 1905, looking to study chemsitry. Where would I go to study? Are there college institutions within the Sublime Sultanate I can attend, or is my best option to study abroad in Europe?

During World War 1, how did Austria-Hungary handle it's ethnic divisions within the military? Did they have separate divisions for minorities, did soldiers have to learn basic German phrases?
